It started off slow.....Got a few wheats, the rosie, button, the buckle....then the crusty indian. Was about to leave, actually swinging to the car and I got a 4" deep quarter signal on the etrac. Nothing was deep here so I thought just ....MAYBE... a silver quarter, but I was shocked to see the 1844 LC to give me a "penny trifecta" for the evening!!!!
I took a drive thru the country just looking around at potential places to detect in the near future and I saw this old abandoned farm I have wanted to detect for 2 yrs....I have called the owner 15-20 times, and he never answers. Well guess what? He was mowing the yard, so I pulled into the drive to talk to him. I asked permission and he was reluctant at first, seems like it is harder to get permission for abandoned places than it is is places where people live. He even said no two times, but I just ignored the "NO's" and kept chatting with him, after about 10 minutes he finally gave in and said "I guess it will be alright" so I told him I will give him 20-30 min to finish mowing, because he was about done and return to detect.

This is all my finds from the weekend, I hunted a couple different houses and an old park that I have had luck at in the past. I ended up with 7 indians: 1867, 1879, 1882, 1898, 1901, 1902, 1906. One silver rosie, some wheats, smashed thimble, old brass ring.....and something for me that is a difficult task........a NICKEL TRIFECTA!!!! 1868 Shield nickel, my 1st one this season, 1906 V nickel and a real sharp 1915 Buffalo. I am always thrilled when I get old nickels, because I dig SO many low conductor targets chasing after them. Deep nickels bounce around a lot and are rarely ever a nice easy 12-13 signal. The shield nickel was real crazy and it was 08-16, 08-20 bouncing around....digging those junk signals paid off!!!!
Hit a yard last nite with my buddy, when we knocked and asked for permission the guy told me we were welcome to detect it but he said I want to warn you my dad has detected this yard pretty hard and he has picked it clean......lol, yeah right!!!!
My first pass gave up a 7" deep indian, then a wheat, and I was thinking this guy's dad must of had a cheap machine or didn't know what he was doing at all. This yard was loaded! All in all I got the following 7 wheats, with 3 of them being 1909, one was a VDB 4 indians, 1880, 1884, 1890 and 1897 1919 buffalo nickel 2 mercs both 1936 2 barber dimes 1898 and 1913 the rosie came from a short hunt saturday as well as the token also in this yard I got the little star that says "Best Ever Club" My partner also scored wheats and a real nice 1929 SLQ, so this yard was a good one, makes me wonder what the dad actually dug up there? I hit an old abandoned house and penny after penny 6-7" deep all memorials, I was about sick this house was well over 100 yrs old, then I get a sweet signal it was like a quarter signal one way 12-46 at 4" and I turned 90 degrees and it was 01-47 registered 4" that way too, so I figured maybe it was either a clad quarter or MAYBE a clad half...NOPE, no way...I about fell over when I saw that BIG silver rim AGAIN! This time it was a 1899
barber half!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can u believe my LUCK??? This is my 4th silver half now in 13 days! |
