2012 Season Totals...Pic Heavy

This is the best year I have ever had for large coppers. Once again I am sure it has to do with hunting so many field sites. Not often does some one dig a large cent and a standing house in my area, just not that many houses that old in my area. But with field sites it allows me to get onto older sites and gives me a chance to get the older coins. Although my OLDEST copper this yr was dug in town, on a curb strip, in front of a 1920′s house. It was a 1746 KG, this coin is 100 yrs older than my town, a very rare find for my area.

This has been a good year for buttons for me, and I contribute that to doing so much field hunting this season. Got a nice selection of Military buttons, CW, WW1, and my best button of the year was a Rifleman’s button from the War of 1812. Also found some interesting buttons such as a cat in the basket, one with a man and a woman..couple surface found buttons, glass boar button and the goodyear hard rubber button. I really enjoy finding buttons, and hope you enjoy these pics. I will be uploading my yr end pics as I get them all done, gonna take a few days…lol

Here is all my dug tokens from the 2012 season….most are fairly common trade tokens, got a few interesting ones. Of course my favorites are the 3 CW store cards. The Dr Bennett’s one is my rarest ever token find, Richards token database lists it as a R-5, got another CW store card in another field site, and my third one was from a yard, and unfortunately it had been smashed, but had enough details to ID.

My buffalo and V nickel counts were down from last year, but I smashed my count this yr on Shield nickels which makes me happy, got 9 shield nickels this year, thanks to all those old field sites once again!!!!!

Got some interesting relics this season, found quite a few crotal bells, they are pretty common around here at really old farm houses and field sites. Found some brass locks, few skeleton keys and a nice selection of suspender buckles, I enjoy finding those, some are so detailed. Hope you enjoy the photos!

Well this is all my sterling, and silver coins for the year. I did not beat last year or even come close to it, but I feel it was a good season.

I ended up with 7 seated coins, 6 dimes and one 1854 seated half dime, my first one in 5 yrs of detecting, so that is a real highlight for my 2012 season. Oldest seated was 1838 found in a farm field. I got some nice barbers, several SLQ’s including a semi key 1920-D and a blazing 1929.

Got 4 halves for the year, 3 walkers and one barber, as for other dimes, I got almost twice the mercs as I got rosies which is a good thing. I got 12 sterling rings, 3 sterling thimbles, sterling pocket knife, The large indian ring is my favorite jewelry find this year. Hope I didn’t go overboard on pictures, and hope you enjoy viewing them!!!!

Well this is the last of my 2012 finds, saved my indians for last!…..This year was just awesome for finding indian pennies, we got basically no winter so I was able to start field hunting in January and hunt all the way thru December. That gave me a couple extra bonus months in the fields. Field sites where old farm houses used to stand are always good for indian pennies. And during the rest of the year I knock doors at old houses, mostly old farms, those are my favorite places to hunt.

Last year I dug 146 indians, so I smashed that record with 174!!!! Also was a real treat to get 2 flying eagles this year, both from field sites, got a 1857 and a 1858. I took a pic of all the fatty indians, a pic of the 1860′s indians, and then just piled them all together. A few of my 174 are not in the pic, they were already in coin flips and I did not want to tear them out.

As for my dug indian set, I only need 7 more to have a complete dug set. I was able to knock a couple off my need list this yr, getting down to the real tough ones now. But I feel what I have now is pretty good considering I have almost a complete set in 5 yrs of detecting.

Hope you enjoy the photos, I sure enjoyed digging all those indians!!!!
